The Hollywood production engine has started to run once again post the Pandemic shutdown.

Most feature projects require a solid 5 years production time and in many cases, Covid furthered that by 1, 2, and even 3 years.

What we see now is the first bloom of the post-Pandemic Productions. We should celebrate them all!

Avatar: The Way of Water

The new trailer looks amazing. Cameron’s 3D direction looks as inspired as the original. The motion capture makes everything else look sub-par as it swims in the uncanny valley of mediocracy. And as always the story will be alienating. Cameron is brilliant.

The only issue is finding a high-quality cinema that will do the film justice.

The Last Deal

Personally, I am a fiend for crime procedurals – those sleek and stylized windows into the world of the criminal and their tools and rules. That kind of film that taps into the mind of a thief – how they think and what they need to survive. And with the Feb 2023 release of Jonathan Salemi’s new feature, I may have found the next crime drama I will be compulsively re-watching and telling everyone about.

Bonus points, Salemi seems to be doing a great Michael Mann riff. I haven’t been this excited about a crime drama since NARC.

Copenhagen Cowboy

Nicholas Windfig Refn – now going by “NWR” has a new feature out and I will be there with bells on! Non-traditional, weird, disturbing, art-house, whatever you call it, it is guaranteed to feel original and interesting. I’m always there for that.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3

This one looks like a tear-jerker. Who will stay and who will go? Where will the series go next? It does look like we finally get to see the origin of Rocket and I surely do hope it matches his original comic limited series drawn by the genius Mike Mignola.

 Indiana Jones 5

The surprising thing here is how traditionally Spielbergian this trailer looks. From the initial camera work, it looks like a throwback to Raiders of the Lost Ark. And I for one am on board for that! The “youthafication” of Ford is of great concern, as is the storyline – but the trailer is a very confident step forward.
