Poster Reveal: Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan’s next feature film is coming into focus, first with the on-set images exclusively from Total Film and now with the release of the striking and abstract first look at the IMAX pre-release poster – let’s take a good look –
One thing is for sure – by the look of the color scheme, the artist behind this poster is likely a fan of Naruto and Dragon Ball Z.
But that is taking this write-up in a different direction.
Here is the poster in full –

Beautiful design work!
We need more creative designs like this. Unfortunately, it is unclear who the artist is. I may even guess it could be the brilliant Chip Kidd. But one thing is clear, this is not your standard Cut & Paste Photoshop job done by a half asleep intern. The poster does exactly what it should do – gives the viewer a feel for what the movie plans to relay.
First look at the poster and the eye adjusts to the shock of color.
My first response was to see abstract shapes.
Just what the deuces was I looking at?
Then the image took shape in my mind and I could feel the blast, burn & sizzle of the image. Oppenheimer, seeing more than we do – and ahead of us in every way as he leads us into the Nuclear Age. We know what he is seeing – but he saw it first and more importantly, he escorted it into our reality. His hair burning like his geneus, lit like a thousand fuses.
I don’t know what the movie will bring – how I will feel – good or bad…
But the poster is an instant classic.
The new Nolan film, Oppenheimer, is based on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin and will be released into theaters and IMAX in 2023.
